Early Life & Education
Originally from Rockaway Beach, New York, Dr. Catherine Hannan aimed for perfection from an early age. Seeking out the best education that New York City had to offer, she was accepted to and finished first in her class at the prestigious Convent of the Sacred Heart School for Girls. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree at Yale University, majoring in both biology and music. It was during her studies at Yale in architecture and art history that she first began to appreciate both form and function and how each contributes to the definition of beauty.
Medical Training & Residency
Dr. Catherine Hannan went on to complete her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and stayed to complete her plastic surgery residency at the Georgetown University Hospital program. As the only plastic surgery training program in Washington DC, she had the opportunity to learn from the masters of the art of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery from all over the District as well as neighboring Baltimore. During the rigorous six-year surgical residency, she honed her surgical skills and her eye for natural beauty.

Dr. Catherine Hannan’s pursuit of excellence in plastic surgery is underscored by her board certifications and fellowships. In 2012, she achieved board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, solidifying her expertise and commitment to the highest standards of patient care. She is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has lobbied on Capitol Hill with the ASPS to maintain stringent standards for plastic surgeons and advocate for breast cancer reconstruction.
Personal Interests & Hobbies
Dr. Catherine Hannan finds joy in various personal interests and hobbies. She cherishes time spent with her family in Washington, DC, where she resides with her husband, two young sons, and a beloved rescue labrador retriever. Dr. Hannan also enjoys staying active through fitness activities and finds fulfillment in singing in her church choir.
Mentorship & Volunteering
As an assistant professor in clinical plastic surgery at Georgetown School of Medicine, Dr. Hannan actively guides and inspires the next generation of surgeons, focusing on empowering young women pursuing careers in surgery. Beyond academia, Dr. Hannan volunteers with the Catholic Charities of America to provide essential surgical care to uninsured individuals in the DC area.
She further extends her impact internationally, traveling to Ecuador with Medical Ministry International to perform life-changing reconstructive surgeries.
